Purdue will have somewhat of a Sunshine State feel inside the football office this weekend, as the Boilermakers are set to host several prospects hailing from Florida for the Wisconsin game.
Delray Beach (Fla.) Atlantic ATH Brisly Estime is one prospect we've targeted as on commit watch to Purdue this weekend.
247Sports has the skinny on the official visitors, the commits coming and other news and notes to keep an eye on including a local junior running back Purdue is high on early in the recruiting process.
Uncommitted Official Visitors
-A defensive back recruit for the Boilers, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound Estime committed to Purdue during the summer before reopening the process the same day. He has never visited West Lafayette, and is one of two prospects on commit watch for the weekend. FIU, Georgia State, Iowa State and Western Michigan round out Estime’s top five.
-The 6-foot-2, 292-pound Bryant is currently committed to Miami. He visited South Carolina last Saturday, and mentioned that he is also looking at Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. Purdue appears to be a long shot but having Bryant on campus is a good start.
-Spells is an under-the-radar back with offers from the Boilers, Georgia State and Tennessee State.
All three of these guys have talked about attending the same school, but we’re not counting on it.
Tampa (Fla.) Middleton WR Richard Benjamin is the other target we feel could potentially pull the trigger for the Boilermakers while visiting this weekend.
-The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Clark has Purdue in his top four with Duke, Illinois and Northwestern.
-The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Bryant picked up his first offer from Purdue earlier this month.
…..The other prospect that is on possible commit watch is Tampa (Fla.) Middleton receiver Richard Benjamin. Recruited by Shawn Clark, the Boilermakers have made a late move here. The other schools in the mix are Arkansas, Louisville, Texas A&M and UCF.
-Terre Haute (Ind.) South Vigo quarterback Danny Etling (unofficial visit)
-Bellaire (Texas) High offensive tackle Dwayne Johnson (official visit)
-Champaign (Ill.) St. Thomas More defensive end John Strauser (unofficial visit)
-Saint John (Ind.) Lake Central running back David Yancey (unofficial visit)
Key Unofficial Visitors
-Lake Villa (Ill.) Lakes Community senior running back Direll Clark has a Purdue offer.
-New Lenox (Ill.) Lincoln-Way Central senior defensive end Evan Panfil has nine offers.
-Indianapolis (Ind.) Heritage Christian teammates, senior receiver Anthony Warrum and junior offensive lineman Ethan McKenzie will be on campus. Warrum is the state’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. McKenzie is fielding a lot of BCS interest.
-Local junior running back Maurice Woodard of West Lafayette (Ind.) Jr./Sr. High has a chance to land a scholarship from the Boilermakers this weekend.
