Purdue landed the state’s top quarterback in 2013 in Danny Etling.
Looks like the Boilermakers will have a shot at one of the state’s top 2014 signal-callers in Mishawaka (Ind.) Penn’s Zach Oakley if they choose to go on him.
The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Oakley visited the West Lafayette campus on Sunday for junior day.
“Loved Purdue,” Oakley stated. “Had a great time. Really liked the coaching staff. Definitely putting them at the top of my list.”
Oakley sees a good fit on and off the field.
“I made a real connection with Coach (John) Shoop the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach,” Oakley said. “Was impressed with the academic opportunities at the university.”
Next up for Oakley is a visit to Illinois on March 8. Other programs showing early interest includes Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green and Rice.
